Body of man found in harbour as police launch investigation

Emergency services were called to the scene at Kirkwall Harbour around 5.40am on Wednesday.

The body of a man has been recovered from a harbour in Orkney.

Police, Kirkwall RNLI lifeboat crews, and HM Coastguard were called to the scene at Kirkwall Harbour around 5.40am on Wednesday, May 8 following the discovery of the body.

Emergency services remain at the scene and investigations are ongoing.

The man’s identity is yet to be confirmed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.40am on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the body of a man was discovered in the water at Kirkwall Harbour, Orkney.

“Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing.”
