Police are warning drivers not to travel on the A87 after multiple campervans were blown over by high winds caused by Storm Floris.

Officers say they’ve received a number of reports of campervans being blown over between Broadford and Portree on Skye due to “unseasonably” strong winds.

Road users are being advised not to travel on the Bealach na Ba road.

Anyone with a campervan should remain parked in sheltered areas until the wind speed reduces, officers said.

A number of roads across the country have also been closed due to fallen trees, debris on the road and flooding caused by the storm.

The A96 is closed in both directions near Old Rayne between Huntly and Inverurie, with road users advised to avoid the area.

Police are advising the public to plan ahead and consider delaying travel until conditions improve.

It comes as an amber alert has been issued for much of the country, lasting from 10am until 11pm.

A second yellow alert, covering the whole of Scotland, will be in place until midnight.

A third yellow weather warning will come into force at midnight, covering Orkney and Shetland until 8am on Tuesday.

Gusts of 50 to 70mph have been forecast for many parts and are likely to reach 80 to 90mph on some exposed coasts, hills, and bridges.

Heavy rain is also forecast for some areas, and gusts could reach 90mph in exposed spots.

The Met Office has urged the public to stay indoors “as much as possible” with high winds creating a risk of injury.
