Cast announced for upcoming reboot of Scottish TV series Monarch of the Glen

The cast for the upcoming reboot of the Scottish TV series Monarch of the Glen has been unveiled by Channel 5.

The six-part series follows the journey of Isla Campbell, played by World on Fire star Julia Brown, who returns to her family’s crumbling estate, which is worlds away from her life as a successful lawyer in London.

She expects to be there only a few days, but instead has to deal with an inherited million-pound debt and a brother Alasdair, played by Outlander actor Chris Fulton, who continues to cling to their ancestral home.

The siblings must find a way to save their home before it’s taken for good by the banks.

Julia Brown said: “I’m so excited to be stepping into the world of Monarch of the Glen and bringing Isla Campbell to life.

“Isla is ambitious, sharp and fiercely independent, but returning home to Scotland forces her to confront her past, her family and a future she never expected.

“I am so, so proud to be joining such a talented cast and cannot wait to bring this heartfelt story to audiences.”

The series is set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands, with filming locations in both Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Other cast members include Ewan Miller of The Gray House as gamekeeper and family friend Ewan, Phyllis Logan from Downton Abbey, as Morag, and John Gordon Sinclair, star of Gregory’s Girl, as longtime family lawyer Fergus.

Phyllis Logan added: “Monarch of the Glen holds such a special place in people’s hearts, so it’s a real privilege to be part of its return.

“The scripts are full of wit, warmth and wonderful characters, and I’m delighted to be working alongside this brilliant cast and crew. It will be great fun to welcome audiences back to Scotland.”

The reboot is being produced by Ecosse Films, the company behind the original 64-episode run between 2000 and 2005.

The new series is slated for release sometime in 2027.
