A ferry service has been pulled less than 24 hours after its cancellation due to a steering fault after a repeat of the same issue.
The MV Maid of Glencoul, which connects Ardnamurchan Peninsula with the mainland across Loch Linnhe, was relaunched on Monday after a weekend-long repair operation to fix a fault with its system.
But Highland Council announced the link – which is operating in place of the MV Corran as it remains in dry dock – has now been terminated again due to the technical issue.
The local authority said it was treating the cancellation as a “matter of urgency” and engineers were working on the problem.
It means vehicles will be forced to take a near two-hour detour around the loch to reach their destination.
“Unfortunately, the steering fault, repaired on the MV Maid of Glencoul yesterday, has failed this morning and is now out of service again,” the said.
“Engineers are onsite and working to resolve the fault as soon as possible.
“This is being treated as a matter of urgency.”
They added: “The council will provide updates as we receive information from the engineers. We appreciate this is disappointing and would like to thank the local communities for their understanding.”
