Couple share 'special' moment the Northern Lights 'exploded' with colour at their wedding in Cromarty

A wedding photographer has captured an “explosion” of colour as the Northern Lights shimmered during a couple’s big day in the Black Isle.

Kerry and Stephen Campbell were given the opportunity of a lifetime when the Northern Lights appeared during their wedding at The Stables in Cromarty on Saturday.

It was just the couple and a bridesmaid who joined photographer Michael Carver outside for the light show, with Kerry adding the “intimate” moment was one to remember.

“I’d only ever seen them once before, so to get them on our wedding photos is insane,” she told STV News.

The photographer was having dinner when an Aurora Borealis alert appeared on his phone, which prompted him to run and tell the couple who were just about to sit down for their meal.

“Michael said there was a chance they were going to show, and we just thought there was absolutely no way we were going to miss even a chance to get pictures like that,” the bride said.

“We went outside to check and couldn’t really see anything, it was quite dull, then all of a sudden the sky just exploded.”

The bride said the “special” moment was a case of being in the right place at the right time and added the couple were lucky to have their “amazing” photographer there to capture the moment.

Earlier this year, Mr Carver was able tick a similar “bucket list” shot off his list after ten years of waiting while photographing a wedding in Inverness.

“It’s so funny because we were joking about it in the morning because I’d seen the pictures he’d gotten of the wedding in Inverness,” Kerry said.

“You think something like this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity so to manage to get another shot like this is incredible,” the photographer said.

The bride said she “can’t believe” the magical moment actually happened, and has found herself looking back at the photograph in disbelief.
