A pensioner who died in a crash involving a motorbike and a campervan in the Highlands has been named.

Alexander McCracken, known as Sandy, was airlifted to hospital following the collision between the Triumph bike and a Fiat Doblo on Friday evening, but later passed away as a result of his injuries.

The 73-year-old, from Coventry, was travelling on the A87 at Glen Shiel at the time of the incident.

The road was closed for more than eight hours following the crash while an initial investigation was carried out.

The occupants of the campervan were found to be uninjured when they were checked over by paramedics.

Police have now launched an appeal for further information as they continue a probe into the crash.

Sergeant Neil MacDonald said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Alexander at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and who hasn’t already spoken to us to get in touch.

“I would also ask that anyone who has dash-cam footage which may assist contact us.”

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 3143 of August 25, 2023.”
