Divers continue search for missing man as new image released Police Scotland

Police have released a new image of a missing dog walker who disappeared in the Highlands just before Christmas.

James Paton, 72, has not been seen since around 1.30pm on Monday, December 23.

Mr Paton, from Kiltarlity near Inverness, was spotted driving his silver Dacia Duster on the Fanellan Farm Road, near to Ruttle Woods on the south side of the River Beauly.

His car was later found near Upper Fanellan with his dog still inside the vehicle.

Police have now released a CCTV image taken at the filling station in Beauly a short time before his last sighting.

Extensive searches have continued since Mr Paton’s disappearance.

Police divers have scoured local riverbanks, while dog units, fire crews, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team and a Coastguard helicopter have also played a part.

Police Scotland’s Dive and Marine Unit will continue their search of the River Beauly on Friday.

Sergeant Brian Bisset said: “Sadly, despite extensive searches we have not been able to locate Mr Paton.

“We are keeping his family fully informed as we continue our enquiries.

“I would continue to urge people to be aware and report anything which may be helpful to police as soon as they can.

“I would also ask local residents to check any sheds, outbuildings or areas where someone could have sought shelter.”
