Drivers ‘caught speeding at more than 115mph’ on rural road

Two motorists have been charged after allegedly driving at more than 115mph on a rural road in the Highlands.

A 34-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were stopped by police on the B817 near Alness on July 23.

Officers said the man was detected driving at 116mph and the woman was detected driving at 119mph on the 60mph road.

Sergeant Ewan Calder from the Road Policing Division said: “The consequences of a collision at such high speeds would be catastrophic and would leave families and friends without loved ones.

“Driving at inappropriate speeds reduces your chances of reacting to unexpected changes and puts you, and innocent members of the public, at risk.”
