Local leaders and politicians have met with Stagecoach to discuss tackling anti-social behaviour following the death of one of its drivers at a bus station in Elgin.
Keith Rollinson, 58, died in hospital after an alleged assault in the St Giles Road area on February 2.
A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with murder following the incident.
Moray council leader Kathleen Robertson met with representatives from Stagecoach, Police Scotland and Moray MP Douglas Ross and MSP Richard Lochhead for a discussion on Friday, February 16.
Speaking afterward, MSP Richard Lochhead said: “An initial meeting between Stagecoach, Moray Council, Police Scotland, and local parliamentarians was held in order to provide some reassurance to the community that there’s a strong focus on ensuring the safety of the public, bus drivers, and passengers, and on tackling anti-social behaviour.
“Further meetings are planned but we will require a local and national response to some of the underlying issues.
“This initial meeting was an invaluable opportunity to hear from Stagecoach, who have lost a much valued colleague in the most horrific circumstances. I pay tribute to the men and women who’ve been back at work providing lifeline bus services to our communities, at a time when they’re mourning the loss of their colleague.”
Councillor Robertson added: “I was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with representatives from Stagecoach and Police Scotland and Moray MP Douglas Ross and MSP Richard Lochhead for a discussion on Friday 16 February.
“This was an important meeting and I am sure we have all found it extremely helpful. We’re committed to continuing to work closely together in the coming months to support the Moray community where we can. Mr Rollinson’s family, friends, and colleagues are very much at the forefront of our thoughts right now.”
Mr Rollinson’s family described him as the “kindest, dedicated and loving husband and father” in a statement released through Police Scotland.
They added: “Our world has been shattered I cannot see us ever getting over our loss of our rock.
“We would like to ask for privacy at this time to deal with the loss without intrusion.”
A 15-year-old boy was arrested and later charged in connection with Mr Rollinson’s death and appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court
