Firefighters are tackling a wildfire in the Highlands with a “large plume of smoke” seen drifting across populated areas.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it is aware of a fire in the open affecting an area of land near the village of Carrbridge.
The alarm was raised at 11.22am on Saturday, and high winds are pushing a large plume of smoke across nearby populated areas.
Fire crews are urging residents that if smoke is visible, they should keep their windows and doors closed.
An SFRS spokesperson said: “We are aware of a fire in the open affecting an area of land near Carrbridge, Highland, after the alarm was raised at 11.22am on Saturday, June 28.
“Due to high winds, a large plume of smoke is drifting across the nearby populated areas.
“If smoke is visible, please keep your windows and doors closed.
“Members of the public no longer need to alert our Operations Control room about this fire, as we are receiving a large number of calls.”
