A rare orange lobster described as “one in 100 million” has been caught by a fisherman off the coast of the Western Isles.
The marine crustacean – uncovered in waters on the East side of Barra – was handed in to fish processing firm Barratlantic over the weekend.
Surprised fisherman Oran Boyd made the discovery while aboard the Isabella CY 464.
The creatures are usually dark blue or black in colour, but all pigmentations bar the red background version, known as astaxanthin, are masked when they are cooked.
Finding one in the wild in extremely unusual, but slightly less rare than bosses at the firm believe as the odds are actually closer to one in 30 million.
They have since placed it in a tank with other live lobsters, though its new neighbours are noticeably less exotically coloured.
A fisherman in Aberdeen caught a blue lobster last year, which are more common but still only occur in one in every two million cases.
