Former Highland League footballer jailed for drug trafficking agrees to hand over £100,000

A former Highland League footballer, jailed for drug trafficking, has settled a proceeds of crime action brought against him by agreeing to hand over more than £100,000.

The judge who jailed Gordon Finlayson told him that his involvement in a drugs operation had made him “a wealthy man”.

Lord Mulholland said: “This was no small-time operation for pocket money. It was sophisticated and made you a wealthy man.”

Finlayson was jailed for seven and a half months last year after admitting being concerned in the supply of drugs in 2024.

After Finlayson admitted trafficking in drugs, including the Class A narcotic cocaine and Class B ketamine, at locations in the Highlands such as Dingwall, Alness and Inverness the Crown brought an action against him aimed at stripping him of crime profits.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that a settlement in the case was reached and it was agreed that Finlayson, 32, had benefited from general criminal conduct in the sum of £750,000.

A confiscation order was made against the ex-footballer, whose former clubs included Elgin City, for the sum of £106,302, an amount already held by the police.
