Two grandparents and a toddler have died following a multiple-vehicle crash in the Highlands.
Emergency services were called to the crash after a red Ford Fiesta and a black Mercedes C Class collided on the A9 at Slochd Summit on Tuesday at about 11.40am.
David McPherson, 68, was pronounced dead at the scene while his wife Elza McPherson, 64, and their two-year-old grandson were taken to hospital, where they both died a short time later.
The occupants of the black Mercedes, a 67-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were taken to hospital following the crash, and are described by medical staff as being in a stable condition.
The road was closed for nine hours while crash scene investigators conducted enquiries into the circumstances of the collision.
Sergeant Neil MacDonald, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased and the family have requested that their privacy is respected at this time.
“We are conducting extensive enquiries into the circumstances of this incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
“In particular, I would ask anyone with dash cam devices to check their footage as it could hold images which could prove to be significant in our enquiries.”
