Speed limits on a number of routes across the Highlands are set to be raised to 30mph.
The local authority said a review would take place into the introduction of trial 20mph limits set up earlier this year.
A report by Highland Council officials said the decision to revert roads back to their original speeds will be based on professional assessments and public feedback.
They said it was always intended for some roads to return to their original speeds.
The trial is part of a pilot project by Transport Scotland ahead of a planned national introduction of 20mph speed limits in 2025.
The report will be discussed at a council meeting next week.
The pilot began in the summer and saw Inverness streets alongside towns and villages such as Nairn, Kingussie and Portree among the 125 communities to have 20mph signs introduced.
The Scottish Borders had permanently implemented a 20mph speed limit in January after a two-year trial.
It said the decision had “clear and obvious safety benefits”.
