Adobe StockPolice are to remain on the scene of a house fire in Kinlochleven for several days after the building was declared unsafe.
A blaze tore through a property on Leven Road in the Highland village on Tuesday morning.
The occupant’s next of kin have been made aware.
Six fire engines and two height vehicles were sent to the scene and remained there throughout most of the day, eventually bringing the fire under control.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.52am on Tuesday, September 1, to reports of a dwelling fire on Leven Road, Kinlochleven.
“At its height, Operations Control mobilised six appliances and two high-reach vehicles to the scene. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire affecting a two-storey mid-terrace house.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Police have since confirmed Leven Road, one of the main roads in the village, has reopened.
Officers will stand guard outside the property due to the building being declared “unsafe”.
Inspector Craig Johnstone said: “Around 11am on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, we received a report of a fire at a property in Leven Road in Kinlochleven.
“Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.
“The property is currently unsafe, but we have been in touch with the occupant’s next of kin.
“The road has now reopened.
“There will be a police presence in the area over the coming days while our investigation in the fire continues.”
