A Highland primary school has cancelled its Christmas show following reports of racist and abusive messages towards staff.

Cauldeen Primary School were due to perform a one-hour musical for parents before the school broke up for the festive holidays.

The performance would have included a scene telling the story of refugee children caught up in conflict.

The Highland Council confirmed that the show was cancelled following negative feedback on social media.

Some of the comments directed at both the school and staff were deemed to be racist and abusive by the local authority.

Pupils will instead have festive learning activities in class rather than take part in a Christmas show.

A spokesperson from the council said: “Following negative feedback on social media, including racist and abusive messages (some of which were directed at the school and staff), the school has made the wellbeing of staff and pupils its main priority.

“Instead of a Christmas show, classes will enjoy other festive learning activities in school.

“Under devolved school management, decisions like this are an operational matter for the school.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On the morning of Friday, 21 November, 2025, we received a report of threatening and abusive communications online.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
