An injured hillwalker was airlifted off a mountain after they fell near the summit on Tuesday.

The Assynt Mountain Rescue Team were called to Cul Mor in Sutherland on October 22 following reports of the incident.

It is believed the mountain climber became unbalanced after being struck by a strong gust of wind causing them to fall down the steep.

HM Coastguard Rescue 151 was dispatched after volunteers requested assistance. The injured person was airlifted off the mountain to receive treatment.

The mountain rescue team escorted the rest of the hill walking party of the mountain safely.

A social media post from the volunteers read: “Assynt Mountain Rescue Team were called out yesterday afternoon to attend a fallen hillwalker on the popular mountain of Cul Mor.

“The injured party had been unbalanced by a strong gust of wind and had tumbled down steep, loose ground close to the mountain’s summit.

“Due to the potentially serious nature of the injuries sustained, we immediately requested air support, and the crew of HM Coastguard Rescue 151 were tasked to respond. Fortunately, the cloud base remained high enough for the coastguard helicopter to safely access the casualty’s location and they were airlifted onward to definitive care.

“A group of our volunteers then walked in to meet with the remaining members of the casualty’s hill party and escort them safely back to their vehicles.”
