A hillwalker was rescued after falling 30 metres into a gorge in Glen Coe.

Glencoe Mountain Rescue was called by Police Scotland to reports of a walker who had fallen in the Coire Gabhail area, also known as the Lost Valley.

The casualty was discovered to have been saved from falling into the river below by a small tree after tumbling down steep ground and landing on the edge of a vertical drop.

Mountain rescue team members were joined on the scene by a Coastguard helicopter.

After a rope system was set up, two volunteers were sent to assess the casualty, who was eventually brought back up using the rope.

The hillwalker was found to have suffered only minor injurise and was able to walk.

A spokesperson for Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team said: “The casualty had tumbled down about 30 metres over steep rocky ground and was stopped right on the edge of a big vertical drop into the river below by a small tree.

“Despite this 30 metre fall, the casualty was lucky to have sustained only minor injuries and was able to walk out with some assistance from the team.

“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

“Thank you to Coastguard Rescue R835 for their assistance.”
