Huge emergency response after climber falls from 3000ft Coire a’ Bhasteir in Cuillin mountain range Skye Skye Mountain Rescue Team

A man has died after falling from a 3000ft mountain on Wednesday in Skye which sparked a huge emergency response.

Skye Mountain Rescue Team said it was called out to Coire a’ Bhasteir on the afternoon of July 26 to aid the man.

Amongst the emergency crews were 20 mountain rescue personnel and a rescue helicopter from Stornoway.

The climber, who did not survive after sustaining fatal injuries, has not been named.

The munro is located in the Cuillin mountain range and is 3,046ft high.

Skye Mountain Rescue Team wrote on Facebook: “On Wednesday afternoon, the team responded to a report of a fallen climber in Coire a’ Bhasteir. 

“Sadly, the experienced male’s injuries were fatal. Stornoway rescue helicopter R948, twenty mountain rescue personnel, and several passing climbers all assisted in evacuating the body from the mountain. 

“Our thoughts go out to the climber’s family and friends.”
