A human skull has been discovered on a millionaire’s estate in Wester Ross during renovation work.

Police confirmed historic remains were found at Badentarbat Lodge in Coigach, near Achiltibuie around 8.25am on Wednesday.

Philanthropist Ian Wace’s offer to buy the land for residents was accepted by the Coigach Community Development Company (CCDC) in October last year.

Funding to purchase the majority of the estate – which includes Achnahaird beach and four of the neighbouring Summer Isles – was gifted by the millionaire.

A portion of the land was kept for Mr Wace himself, with the purchase helping the CCDC build much-needed affordable homes to retain the lifeblood of the area.

The human remains were discovered this week during renovation work at a property.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.25am on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, we received a report of human remains discovered during renovation work at a property near Achiltibuie.

“Enquiries were carried out, and the remains were confirmed to be historic.”
