The NHS have confirmed a care home in Inverness has been closed down after “serious and significant” concerns were raised by inspectors.
The Care Inspectorate had submitted an application to the sheriff court to cancel the registration of Cradlehall Care Home after an inspection of the facility raised “serious and significant concerns”.
The organisation said it had identified significant concerns about the safety and wellbeing of the residents – and that there was no choice but to make the rare move.
The nursing home had provided 50 beds for the care of older people for nursing, palliative and dementia care.
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: “An inspection identified serious and significant concerns about the quality of care experienced by residents at Cradlehall Care Home in Inverness.
“Because of our concerns about the safety and wellbeing of residents we submitted an application to the sheriff court seeking cancellation of the care home’s registration.
“Agreement has now been reached between the care provider and the Care Inspectorate to voluntarily cancel the service’s registration with the Care Inspectorate, and the home is now expected to close on April 17.
“This will allow new care arrangements to be put in place for residents of the home.
“We are working closely with our partners including Highland Health and Social Care Partnership to ensure that residents experience appropriate care that meets their needs during this difficult time.”
A spokesperson for NHS Highland has confirmed the closure.
A statement explained: “The Highland Health and Social Care Partnership notes the agreement made between the Care Inspectorate and the operators of Cradlehall care home to voluntarily cancel the service’s registration. The home will now close on Wednesday, April 17 2024.
“The main aim of the Highland Health and Social Care Partnership is to ensure the safety and promote the wellbeing of the residents of Cradlehall care home while we prepare for the short-notice closure.
“We acknowledge that this will be a distressing time for families and residents, and we continue to have active discussions with them while we support residents to relocate to alternative care placements.”
