A man has appeared in court accused of murdering his mother and attempting to murder his father in a knife attack.
Thomas Fraser, from Inverness, made no plea at Inverness Sheriff Court on Tuesday as he was committed for further examination and remanded in custody by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald.
The 30-year-old will appear again within the next eight days.
His arrest follows an incident in the Merkinch area of the city on Sunday.
Officers were called to reports of an injured woman and man in a property on Craigton Avenue at around 7.30pm on Sunday.
Fraser’s father, Ian, 55, and his mother, Miriam Macdonald, aged 51, were taken to Raigmore Hospital with serious injuries. Ms Macdonald later died.
She would have been 52 on Tuesday.
It is understood that her husband is in intensive care but his condition has not been officially disclosed.
The force said it was a contained incident and that they were not looking for anyone else in connection.
Fraser was arrested on Sunday night and was expected to appear in court on Monday morning. However, that was delayed 24 hours, and in the meantime, Miriam passed away.
The first charge alleges that on June 1, Fraser repeatedly stabbed his father in the body with two knives, causing him serious injury, danger to life, and attempted murder.
The second charge alleges that on June 2, 2025, he murdered his mother by repeatedly stabbing her to the head, neck, and body with two knives.
He made no plea at the private hearing and was remanded in custody pending a further court appearance.
