The theft of a life-saving defibrillator from a Highland village hall has disgusted community leaders.

The device was taken from a storage cabinet on a wall outside Glengarry Hall on Wednesday.

Defibrillator: £2000 device missing from village hall.

There is an alternative at the village’s post office and a replacement has quickly been provided by the Portree-based charity Lucky2BHere which supplied the original devices.

Glengarry community councillor and hall committee chairman Lea MacNally said: “This theft is disgraceful.

“One would hope that maybe whoever took it needed it. But if it was anybody local who needed it we would have heard about it.

“After reporting it to the police, I checked with the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“If it had been used by somebody there would then have been paramedics and an ambulance involved – and they’ve got no record of an ambulance being called out.”

He added: “We cannot express highly enough our gratitude to Lucky2BHere for their swift response in loaning us a replacement defibrillator.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Our inquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.”
