A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Canadian woman in Shetland.
Aren Pearson appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday where he faced a single charge of murder.
The 39-year-old made no plea and has been remanded in custody.
Claire Leveque, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene of a disturbance in the Sandness area on Sunday, February 11.
Pearson was committed for further examination and is expected to appear before court again within the next eight days.
A spokesperson for the High Commission of Canada in the UK told STV News: “Global Affairs Canada is aware of reports of the death of a Canadian citizen in Scotland.
“Consular officials are contacting local authorities to obtain additional information.”
