A man has died after a crash which closed a road for almost 12 hours as Storm Jocelyn battered Scotland.
At around 11.40am on Tuesday, January 23, a crash involving a single car – a grey Renault Captur – took place on the A859 on the Isle of Lewis near Balallan.
The driver, a 73-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Western Isles Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.
The road was closed until around 11pm to allow for an investigation at the scene.
Sergeant Neil Macdonald, of the Highland and Islands road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died in the collision.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information or dashcam footage from the area to get in touch.
“Anyone who believes they may be able to help can call 101, quoting reference 1186 of January 23.”
