A man has died after being pulled from a canal amid freezing temperatures in the Highlands.
Emergency services including fire and ambulance crews, including a critical care paramedic, attended the scene at the Caledonian Canal in Inverness around 9.40am on Tuesday morning.
A water rescue boat was also deployed by emergency crews.
Police later confirmed a 31-year-old man’s body was recovered from the water at the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for a person in the Caledonian Canal in Inverness shortly after 9.40am on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
“A 31-year-old man was subsequently recovered from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin are aware.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
