A man was flown to hospital after being found unconscious on a Skye mountain during a nine-hour rescue operation.
The climber had suffered a “significant fall” near Sgurr Dubh na Da Bheinn on Friday and emergency services were called.
A 12-strong mountain rescue squad was lowered on to the Cuillin Ridge by a coastguard helicopter to perform a search.
A few hours later, one of the team members found the casualty, who was unconscious and had serious injuries.
Another four team members were flown as close as possible to the scene, as they brought additional equipment for the rescue.
The climber was treated on scene by a mountain rescue medical officer, before being put on a stretcher and taken on to the helicopter.
He was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where mountain rescue said “the casualty is believed to be in a critical but stable condition”.
Skye Mountain Rescue Team was off the hill by 9.30pm. A statement said: “Many thanks to the Stornoway helicopter crew for their support and professionalism once again in what was a challenging situation.”
It added: “Many thanks also to the climbers who did the right thing by contacting the emergency services, acting on what they heard.
“Without this initial report the casualty would not have been found for a very long time.
“We wish the casualty a speedy and full recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and his friends at this very difficult time.”
