Police investigating the discovery of human remains on an Orkney beach are liaising with the family of a missing man.
Officers were called to the Dingieshowe area on Monday afternoon after the remains were found.
John Mackay, 51, was reported missing from Muirtown Street in Inverness on November 8.
A police spokesperson said: “An investigation is underway to identify human remains found on the beach at Dingieshowe, Orkney.
“Work is ongoing to confirm the person’s identity and to establish what has happened.
“Officers continue to liaise with the family of John Mackay, however, we are unable to confirm anything at this stage. “
Anyone with information which might help us trace John is asked to call 101, quoting the reference number 1036 of November 8.
