Police have launched an appeal over a crash that left a pensioner dead and another seriously injured near a village in the Highlands.

Road officers shut down part of the A938 between Carrbridge and Dulnain Bridge early on Thursday evening following the incident involving a bronze Volvo XC90.

The 74-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics while the 73-year-old passenger was rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Her condition is described as “serious but stable”.

Police say the vehicle was the only one involved in the crash, but have urged any other motorists who may have been in the area at the time to come forward and share any information with investigators.

Sergeant Ewan Calder, of the North road policing unit, said they were particularly keen to here from those with dashboard-mounted cameras who possibly captured footage of the crash or its aftermath.

He added: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw what happened or has dash-cam footage that could assist us with our investigation to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2596 of May 26.
