Police are searching for the owner of a wild boar that they say has been on the loose in Caithness.

The wild boar cross domestic pig has been captured after being spotted on the run.

Officers are appealing for help tracing the animal owner before Monday morning.

A spokesperson said: “We are urgently trying to trace the owner of a wild boar cross domestic pig that has been captured after being on the run loose in Caithness recently.

The owner of the boar is being urged to contact policePolice Scotland

“We need to identify the owner to return the beast to them as soon as possible, and by the morning of Monday, December 9.

“If this is your boar, please call us on 101 quoting incident ref 1337 of Thursday, December 5, 2024.”

Wild boars are part of the pig family. Breeding populations have developed in Lochaber, Dumfries, and Galloway due to escapees from zoos, private collections and farms, and illegal releases.
