Businesses affected by the devastating wildfires across the Cairngorms are eligible for a share of £3m in government funding.
Grants will come from the Scottish Government through the Highland Council’s support scheme in the aftermath of the destructive wildfires.
The fires broke out on July 15 and tore through vast areas of Highland countryside, forcing residents of Nethy Bridge and other communities to evacuate their homes.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has spent weeks battling the blaze, with more than 500 firefighters involved in the response at its height.
Because of the prolonged burning, the fire has affected businesses, and tourists and visitors have been warned to stay away from places such as Glenmore and Loch Morlich.
STV NewsEven now, fire crews continue to monitor conditions across the affected area and search for deep-seated fires within the soil.
Stephen Flynn, the economy secretary, said the funding will provide “immediate relief” for impacted businesses.
He said: “The wildfire in the Cairngorms National Park has had a significant impact on many businesses, particularly those premises within the cordon that have been unable to trade.
“I want to thank business owners, employees and local residents for their patience and understanding of the necessary precautions put in place by emergency services to tackle the fire and maintain public safety.
“We understand the difficult position that many now face which is why I am pleased to be able to confirm up to £3m for the Highland Council to support affected businesses directly.
“This will provide immediate relief for impacted businesses but we will continue to work closely with the Highland Council, HIE and Cairngorms National Park Authority on what further support may be required for the area in the longer term.”
