A probe is under way after a child was able to sneak out of a Highland nursery during the day without teachers noticing.
The youngster was found by a concerned passer-by after absconding from Park Primary Nursery in Invergordon on Tuesday afternoon.
He was later safely returned to the school, which is temporarily housed within Invergordon Academy after a series of fires rendered their building unusable.
Council chiefs say they are now “reviewing security” at the facility and parents were notified of the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said no further details would be released.
It is not known how old the child was or for how long they were missing.
A Highland Council spokesperson said: “Thankfully the missing child was found safe and well. We want to reassure the school community that a full review of the circumstances surrounding this incident will be carried out.
“Keeping children safe during school time is paramount and The Highland Council has taken appropriate steps with the school and all concerned, including contact with family members.”
They added: “Risk assessments are carried out in each Highland school to ensure that the appropriate levels of security are in place at all times.”
