Skye mountain rescue team save engaged couple who missed celebration after getting lost in Cuillins

A newly engaged couple were faced with an unexpected relationship test on Sunday night after they got lost while walking in the Highlands.

Ahead of a pre-booked meal to celebrate their news at the award-winning, renowned Three Chimneys restaurant in Colbost the couple took on the Storr before getting lost, when they found themselves cragfast and benighted.

Skye Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) said that “the poor couple’s domestic was soon gate-crashed by our resident Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) team, Bryan and his search dog Gwen”.

It was Gwen’s first find for the mountain rescue team who said that they were “all really chuffed for Bryan that the time and effort he has put into training her is finally paying off”.

It came amid a busy spell for the rescuers who provided an update of their work on Monday, September 26.

As well as mentioning the lover’s tiff, the Skye MRT wrote: “Cuillin call outs are a bit like buses. You wait around long enough for one and then they all come along at once.

“After our recent all-nighter, we were out again on Tuesday afternoon to a very wet Coire na Creiche for a woman with a lower leg injury.

“Then, on Saturday night we had two mini callouts back to back in Glenbrittle.

“The first, a cragfast male in Coire a’ Tairnelear, was picked up by the Coastguard SAR helicopter R948. As that one was coming to an end reports came in of a party of three overdue from Glenbrittle Youth Hostel.

“They were located safe and well within five minutes and we all scarpered off home quick smart before something else kicked off.

“Late this afternoon we were back at Sligachan base after reports of an accident on Pinnacle ridge, again many thanks to R948 for their attendance and also to Sam Percival who was guiding in the area and assisted with the rescue.”
