A man is to appear in court charged with the murder of his brother-in-law and attempting to kill his wife and three others on a Scottish island.
Finlay MacDonald, from Tarskavaig, is accused of killing John MacKinnon, 47, and faces three attempted murder charges against his 32-year-old wife, with whom he has four children, and a local chiropractor John Don MacKenzie and his wife in Dornie.
The 40-year-old is accused of stabbing his spouse with a knife or similar instrument to her severe injury and danger of life.
At a prior hearing at Inverness Sheriff Court in August 2022, MacDonald made no plea to the charge that he repeatedly discharged a shotgun at his sister’s husband, Mr MacKinnon, shooting him on the body whereby he was severely injured and murdered him.
After Mr MacKinnon’s death, the charge claims Macdonald repeatedly used the shotgun on Mr MacKenzie, striking him on the body to his severe injury and danger of life.
Mrs Mackenzie was also shot on the head and body to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The incidents are all said to have taken place on August 10 in Tarskavaig, on Skye, and Dornie, on the mainland in Wester Ross.
MacDonald will appear at a preliminary hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, July 27.
