A man who was once jailed for a school stabbing has been found guilty of trying to kill a man in Shetland.
Stephen Savage, 50, carried out a brutal knife attack on a man in Lerwick, Shetland on September 17, 2022.
Jurors heard how the victim was getting the blame for £20 going missing before he was attacked with a kitchen knife.
Savage had denied the attempted murder charge during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
But, he was found guilty and will learn his fate when he returns to the dock next month.
Savage, of Glasgow, had previously been locked up for four and a half years in 2012 for an unprovoked attack on another dad outside a primary school in the city.
The Shetland murder bid unfolded after Savage ended up at the house in Lerwick despite the fact he wasn’t known to most of the people there.
A witness told the court that Savage was calling himself by a different name on the night.
It was said that an “argument” later erupted – Savage and the victim were part of it.
The witness said Savage had said “something about money having been stolen and (the victim) had been getting the blame for it.”
The trial heard he was then seen clutching a blade later described to be the “biggest one” from a set of knives in the kitchen.
The witness recalled the victim “trying to protect himself” and was “in a panic” trying to escape Savage.
After the victim got out, another resident came to his aid with a towel to stem the blood.
The court heard the victim was left scarred for life as a result of the attack.
Lord Harrower remanded Savage in custody and deferred sentencing until next month in Dundee.
