A dog believed to have been stolen has been found safe and well in a car 230 miles away having been missing for more than four months.

The pet was taken from an address in Wick on Saturday, March 19.

Four months and 21 days later, police officers on patrol in Milnathort near Kinross stopped a car on Stirling Road at around 5.15pm, on Monday, August 8.

During the “routine vehicle stop” the Perth road police discovered the dog 230 miles away from home.

“We think she was happy to see us and she has now been returned to her owner,” said officers.

A statement from Police Scotland said: “Following enquiry, a 66-year-old man has been charged in connection with alleged theft of the dog and road traffic offences.

“A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
