A teenager who died after falling from a cliff in the Highlands has been named locally.
Alesha Wright, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency services responded to reports of two people falling from a cliff in Caithness.
The incident occurred in the Victoria Walk area of Thurso at around 5.50pm on Monday.
Coastguard rescue teams, the Thurso RNLI lifeboat, a Coastguard helicopter from Inverness, and Police Scotland officers responded.
A 26-year-old man was also injured, and had to be airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment, where he remains.
Alesha’s death is currently being treated as “unexplained,” police confirmed after launching an investigation into the incident.
A spokesperson said: “Around 5.50pm on Monday, July 11, officers were called to the Victoria Walk area in Thurso, following a report of a man and woman having fallen from a cliff.
“Emergency services and Coastguard attended but an 18-year-old woman had died. Her next of kin have been informed. Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
“A 26-year-old man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.”
A coastguard spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard was involved in an incident in Thurso yesterday evening. Wick, Scrabster and Duncansby coastguard rescue teams were sent along with the Thurso RNLI lifeboat for sea cover.
“The HM coastguard helicopter from Inverness was sent. One person was taken to Raigmore Hospital by helicopter.”
