Mountain rescue teams in Glencoe were called out to three incidents at the same time after climbers were injured during severe weather.

In an “unprecedented” afternoon, Glencoe MRT were first called to three climbers in Coire nan Lochan, with one member of the group injured.

The incidents took place as severe weather swept the north of Scotland last week, with amber warnings in place for snow and heavy rain.

As volunteers arrived on scene, the casualty was put on a stretcher, but due to the conditions, a Coastguard rescue helicopter could not assist in the rescue.

Volunteers had to carry the stretcher back to the roadside.

As that rescue started, a second callout was instigated to assist a walker in Coire Gabhail with a leg injury who was unable to bear weight.

Crews were again unable to gain assistance from the Coastguard rescue helicopter, and the casualty was also stretchered to the roadside.

A third callout came in requesting assistance from two walkers on the Pap of Glencoe.

Glencoe MRT said on Facebook: “With the team now engaged in two lengthy stretcher carries, it was pretty unfortunate timing…

“Fortunately, our one remaining available team member managed to locate and guide them back to the Glen, safe and well.

“Well done to all team members who worked hard to find solutions to these challenges. We wish the casualties the very best recovery.

“A huge thank you to the group who helped with the stretcher carry, and thanks to the crew of R851 for attempting to get in despite the weather.”
