Investigations have revealed that one of the cars involved had earlier been reported stolen.

Three people have been injured and a dog has died following a crash involving a stolen car in Inverness.

Emergency services were called to a crash on the A96 at Newton of Petty involving a red Vauxhall Corsa and a black Volvo XC60 around 8.45am on Friday.

The 50-year-old female driver of the Corsa was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. A dog travelling in the car died at the scene.

A 74-year-old woman, who was the passenger of the Volvo, was also taken by air ambulance to the same hospital.

The 74-year-old male driver of the Volvo was taken by road ambulance to Raigmore Hospital.

Investigations have revealed that the Corsa had earlier been reported stolen from the Buckie area.

The road remains closed while crash investigations are carried out.

Sergeant Ewan Calder said: “Our enquiries into the crash and the events leading up to it are ongoing.

“I’m appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, or saw the vehicles prior to the collision, to contact us. I’d also ask drivers with dash-cams to review their footage and bring anything of significance to our attention.”
