Train services cancelled in Highlands after chemical spill near railway at Inverness

A chemical spill near the railway in the Highlands has sparked disruption to passengers.

ScotRail services between Perth and Inverness and also between Aberdeen, Inverurie, Elgin and Inverness were cancelled after 7pm on Tuesday.

The rail operator added that some customers may not be able to complete their journey and have been advised to make alternative arrangements.

Disruption is expected until the end of service on Tuesday.

A ScotRail post read: “Due to a chemical spillage near the railway at Inverness, services will be disrupted.

“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.”

They added: “We have requested replacement transport at Inverness, Aberdeen and Perth but we have nothing confirmed at present.

“Due to the there being no transport available at present, customers are advised to make their own arrangements as we can not guarantee you will be able to complete your journey tonight.”
