Tributes to ‘talented and generous’ Highland Council solicitor killed in road crash Police Scotland

Tributes have been paid to a “talented and generous” solicitor killed after being struck by a car while cycling on a rural road in the Highlands.

Jane Davey was taken to hospital after being hit by a Dacia Sandero near Mains of Bunachton, in Dunlichity, just before 1pm on Monday, January 30.

The 59-year-old was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where she was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

The Highland Council paid tribute to Mrs Davey, who was a principal solicitor based at the local authority’s headquarters in Inverness for 25 years.

Chief executive, Donna Manson said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Jane and extend our deepest condolences to her husband, family, friends and colleagues.

“Jane worked with the Council for 25 years, joining in 1997 and in recent years developed her specialism in supporting the Health and Social Care Service.”

Mrs Davey was described as “wonderful, talented and warm” as locals reacted to the news of her death on social media.

One person wrote: “Such sad and heartbreaking news. My thoughts are with James and Anna and I hope you both read all of these lovely comments at some point.

“Jane showed great kindness and generosity towards my two daughters when they were young and we have fond memories. She was always cycling with a smile on her face. It’s hard to believe this news.”

Another said: “So utterly devastating to hear this. A fantastic help in many a professional dilemma and crisis.

“Talented and generous with her time. All thoughts are with her family and friends and all who loved her.”

A third comment read: “Such tragic news, Jane was such a wonderful, talented and warm lady, a true professional and well-respected colleague. Her opinion was always valued by me.”

A police spokesperson said that enquiries were continuing into the crash and asked for anyone with any relevant information to get in touch.

Road policing sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with Jane’s family and friends at this difficult time and our enquiries continue into the crash.

“Despite happening in a rural location, we’d ask anyone with relevant dash-cam footage, or who saw what happened, to get in contact with officers.”

Those with information have been asked to contact 101 and quote incident number 1416 of January 30, 2023.
