Two arrested and six taken to hospital after two same day crashes on A9

Two drivers were arrested and six people were taken to hospital following separate crashes on the A9 on Saturday.

Road policing officers were first called to the Ralia junction, near Newtonmore, shortly before 2pm after a crash involving a white Vauxhall Crossland and a blue Jaguar XF.

A 55-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man – passengers from the Vauxhall – were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Both have since been discharged.

Two women aged 61 and 55 – passengers from the Jaguar- were taken to the same hospital for treatment to “serious” injuries.

Police confirmed that a 58-year-old man, the driver of the Vauxhall, has been arrested and charged in connection with the crash and is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday.

Officers were then called to the Lynwilg junction, south of Aviemore, at around 5.25pm after a crash involving a Vauxhall Corsa, a black Land Rover Discovery, a blue Ford Fiesta and a silver Volkswagen Amarok.

A 17-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, both passengers from the Vauxhall Corsa, were taken to Raigmore Hospital.

The man’s condition has been described as “serious”.

Police confirmed on Sunday that a 56-year-old man, the driver of the Vauxhall, has been arrested and charged in connection with the collision and is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday.

Both roads have since re-opened fully to the public.

Sergeant Ally Mackay said: “Our investigation into both of these incidents are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information which has not yet been passed to police to get in touch.

“We would be keen to speak to anyone who witnessed either incident or who may have dashcam footage.
