Two people have been charged after police recovered £10,000 worth of cocaine at properties on the Isle of Barra.
Police assisted by Dogs Against Drugs made the finds at addresses on St Brendan’s Road and in Castlebay on August 22.
Officers acting under warrant searched the addresses where cocaine worth an estimated value of £10,000 and more than £2,000 in cash were recovered.
A 41-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman were arrested and charged. Both are due to appear at Lochmaddy Sheriff Court next Wednesday, September 3.
Dogs Against Drugs is a registered Scottish charity and community-led project. It was established in 2002 by locals in Shetland to safeguard the islands from the issue of illegal drugs.
Chief inspector Ross McCartney said: “Police Scotland is committed to tackling drug dealing in our communities.
“This pro-active enforcement and recovery outlines our commitment in taking action against those involved in drug dealing, regardless of location.
“The public’s help is crucial when it comes to tackling drug dealing in our communities.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Outer Hebrides Drug and Alcohol Partnership for their continued support in respect of police dog Viv and her handler.
“Anyone with any information or concerns should contact police on 101.”
