Two people have been airlifted and a third has been rushed by ambulance to hospital following a crash in Orkney.

Emergency services were called to the A961, three miles south of St Margaret’s Hope, South Ronaldsay, after reports of the collision at 11.15am on Tuesday.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed they had dispatched three ambulances, a trauma team and two air ambulances to the scene.

Two people were taken to hospital in Aberdeen by helicopter. A third person was taken to Balfour Hospital by ambulance.

Their conditions remain unknown.

Two fire crews were also deployed to the scene of the collision, where firefighters worked to make the area safe, SFRS said.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 11am on Tuesday, August 15, to a report of a two vehicle crash on the A961 three miles south of St Margarets Hope, South Ronaldsay.

“Emergency services attended. One person was taken to Balfour Hospital by ambulance and two people to hospital in Aberdeen by heli-med.

“The road is currently closed and road users are advised to avoid the area.”
