Vehicle weight restriction approved for iconic James Bond location to ‘protect fragile infrastructure’The Highland Council

A vehicle weight restriction at an iconic James Bond location in the Highlands has been approved in an effort to protect the “fragile infrastructure”.

Glen Etive hit silver screens across the world as Daniel Craig’s Bond returned to his roots in 2012’s Skyfall.

The spot has since become popular with fans of 007 looking to follow in the secret agent’s footsteps.

The Highland Council has introduced a permanent 18‑tonne Maximum Gross Weight restriction to safeguard the “structurally vulnerable route”.

A 30‑foot vehicle length restriction has already been introduced to cover the section from Dalness Estate to Loch Etive.

Several bridges along this corridor are also subject to weight limits due to structural constraints.

The local authority believe the new restrictions will ensure the road remains “safe and serviceable”.

Lochaber Committee Chair, Cllr Kate Willis said: “The C1094 was never designed to support heavy haulage or major construction traffic.

“Continued use by overweight vehicles has resulted in subsidence and structural impacts on the wheel tracks, placing an unsustainable burden on maintenance budgets.

“The new weight restriction is a necessary step to preserve this unique and environmentally sensitive road for the future.”
