Mountain rescue volunteers scaled a Sutherland mountainside to aid a climber struck by a falling rock.
The Assynt Mountain Rescue Team were called on Thursday to assist a walker who had sustained a leg injury after a large rock became dislodged.
They received treatment from fellow climbers, close to the peak of Conival, before walking unassisted down the mountain to meet rescue crews.
A spokesperson for Assynt Mountain Rescue said the walker had been hit by a large rock, “causing a nasty laceration to their leg”.
“Fortunately, the casualty was well-prepared, and, with the assistance of some fellow walkers, dressed the wound and called 999, requesting police and then Mountain Rescue”, a spokesperson said.
“Following a telephone consultation with our team’s medical officer, they felt able to start descending the mountain on foot.
“Meanwhile, a small group of our volunteers walked into the casualty’s location carrying medical supplies and equipment.
“Upon reaching the team, one of our Remote Rescue Medical Technicians made a further assessment of the injury and applied a fresh dressing to the wound.
“The casualty felt well enough to continue walking out with our team members unassisted.”
