Watch as teen skier takes on terrifying descent down Skye mountain

A Scottish teenage skier has described the “surreal” experience of completing a terrifying descent down a mountain on the Isle of Skye.

Ben Girdwood shared a clip of the awe-inspiring descent through heavy snow on the Great Stone Chute on Sgurr Alasdair earlier this week.

The mountain is the highest peak on Skye, at an elevation of 992m, and is the highest UK island summit. It takes around six hours to reach the top.

The teen, from Inverurie, who has been skiing since he was 11, took on the scree chute, described as “extremely steep and loose”.

Sharing his experience of the “pretty bonkers” descent to his TikTok page, Ben gained thousands of views, likes and comments.

He has previously shared clips of skiing in the Alps and at popular spots in Scotland, including the Cairngorms.

He told STV News: “This descent has been number one on my bucket list for six years.

“I was really excited, I wasn’t too nervous. It felt so surreal to finally do it.

“I’ve rewatched the clip so many times in the past few days, and every time I’m like ‘oh my goodness, I just skied that – it’s so crazy’.”
