The bomb squad was called to a beach on the Isle of Tiree after an unexploded sea mine was discovered.
HM Coastguard teams were called to Heanish beach on the island after a member of the public discovered a suspected ordnance item on January 31.
Believed to be a sea mine – an explosive device designed to destroy or damage surface ships and submarines – the EOD was asked to attend.
A cordon was erected around the object before it was detonated safely on February 2 and confirmed to be a sea mine.
Footage of the incident was shared by the Isle of Tiree Coastguard Rescue Team.
The public has been urged to be aware of unidentified objects washing up on beaches amid recent storms and unsettled weather.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “Although it’s rare to find unexploded ordnance, bad weather and high tides can expose items of all shapes and sizes.
“If you come across something unusual or suspect it could be unexploded ordnance, please don’t try to touch it or move it.
“Instead, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We will respond with our partner agencies to keep people safe and ensure the item in question is disposed of correctly.”
