A woman had to be airlifted to hospital after she was trampled by cows in the Highlands.

The Scottish Charity Air Ambulance were called to the incident at Newtonmore and flew a doctor-led team to the scene.

The patient was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to receive treatment for multiple injuries.

The journey, which would have taken two hours by road, took half an hour.

A spokesperson said: “SCAA was quickly on scene when a woman was trampled by several cows while walking near Newtonmore recently.

“SCAA flew a doctor-led team to the scene and then airlifted the patient, suffering multiple injuries, to the Major Trauma Centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in around half an hour – a journey that would take well over two hours by road.”
