Plans for a £168k Dundee Covid memorial have been given the green light by councillors.
The memorial will be constructed on vacant land at Moncur Crescent and Caird Avenue, which was formerly the site of Coldside Nursery.
It will include an “accessible footpath” which connects to the existing footpath from Caird Avenue.
Information panels designed to enhance the visitor experience of the memorial are also included.
These will outline “techniques for reflection and prompts to encourage the connection with nature”.
There will also be the option to further develop the memorial through the installation of metal “fins.”
These would be a “series of flowing gradient curves featuring laser cutouts of bird silhouettes”, which would tell the story of loss and reflection.
The project is estimated to cost £168,000, which will be fully funded through the Scottish Government grant funding and external funding partners.
It was approved by councillors on the city governance committee when they met on Monday.
Speaking at the meeting, SNP councillor Heather Anderson said: “This has been a lovely thing to be involved in and hopefully it will be something in Dundee that people enjoy sitting in, remembering in and being relieved that they have all come through Covid.”
It is anticipated that groundwork will start in late summer for a four to six-week period, with planting commencing in autumn for summer 2026.
